Football defeated on late field goal

Louisburg College football traveled to Newport News, Virginia to face off against Apprentice School Saturday.

After the first quarter both teams were still scoreless, but by halftime Louisburg was trailing 17-7. Louisburg scored a safety in the third quarter to make the score 24-9. In the fourth the Hurricanes came back to tie it, but the game ended with an Apprentice School field goal to make the score 40-37.

"Our team battled together through a lot of adversity today," said Louisburg coach Quinderra Spellman. "We are extremely proud of how they finished the game. We put together a really good second half, but we just fell short at the end" 

The Hurricanes only had six total yards rushing in the game, however they had 427 total yards in the air. Quarterback Reed Charpia was 28-44 passing with 4 touchdowns including an 80 yard pass. 

Jevon Myers had 5 receptions for 109 yards including the 80 yard touchdown. Jayden Flood-Brown accumulated 4 receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown. Jeiel Melton hadd 2 receptions for 36 yards. Jake Riddle added 3 receptions for 21 yards and 2 touchdowns.

For the Louisburg defense Devin Martin (2) and Price Massey (1) both had interceptions. The Hurricanes defense had seven sacks including: Eddie Wilson (2), True Robinson, Jakob Galluzzo, Mikie Anderson, Xzavier Fields, and Shavez Samuels
