Football defeats AHOP Christian

Louisburg College football took the field on Sunday at Durham County Stadium for their first regular season game of 2022 against AHOP Christian Academy. The Hurricanes won 30-19.

"Sunday was a great team win," said Louisburg head coach Chris Tolbert, "I'm proud of our staff and the work they put in to get our team prepared to play. We were down to 1 quarterback and 20 players on the defensive side due to quarantine protocol, so we had a bunch of guys playing new positions."

At halftime AHOP led 19-16, but Savone Tutt had a 90 yard kickoff return to open the 2nd half which jump started the Hurricanes. He also had 2 sacks and a bunch of tackles while learning a new spot on defense.

Louisburg ran for 300 yards in the game. According to Coach Tolbert, "Our running backs were solid, but I think they still have more to give." Hezekiah Newby went for 111 yards on 22 carries and Lionel Long had 80 yards on 12 carries.

Quarterback Kenneth Cornell threw for 132 yards and one touchdown. He ran for another touchdown. Cameron McGill and Mike Wesolowski graded out well on the offensive line. Raymond Hall and Jayden Flood-Brown made timely catches to keep drives alive.

Louisburg will take the field against Jireh Prep on September 25. The game will be played at Island Mountain Charter High School and kickoff at 1:00 PM.
