football vs Lynchburg, season opener

Football Stunned by VU Lynchburg in 2018 Opener

For the first time since the 2015 season, the Louisburg College football team came up on the losing end of a game.  On Sunday they traveled to Lynchburg, VA to meet Virginia University of Lynchburg where they fell by a final score of 30-28.

In a matchup that the Hurricanes statistically dominated, the Dragons of VUL were able to force five Louisburg turnovers and a safety.  Though the Louisburg defense buckled down in the second half not allowing VUL to score, it wasn't quite enough as the deficit was just too deep.

Elijah Rice starred for the blue and red on Sunday afternoon going over the century mark in receiving yards and catching a pair of touchdowns.

The Hurricane defense, led by Costello Bussey, had four sacks and 14 tackles for loss on the day.

"I'm proud of how we finished," said Head Coach Trevor Highfield.  "We have a lot of respect for the VU-Lynchburg players and coaches and they did a great job.  I'm looking forward to getting back to work in preparation for Opponent Two this week."

The Hurricanes will get back to work in preparation for a 1pm matchup with Southern Sports Academy on September 1st at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
