Baseball Season comes to a close

Louisburg College baseball participated in the Region 10 Tournament in Lexington, SC from May 6-8. The season ended on a 2-2 weekend as the Hurricanes defeated USC Union and USC Lancaster while losing to Florence-Darlington and USC Sumter.

In game one Friday, Louisburg defeated USC Union 4-1. The Hurricanes began the tournament with a homerun from Eli Weisner in the 1st inning. USC Union tied it at one in the third before RBIs from Chris Sparber and Zach Stanko helped the Hurricanes pull away. Tristan Snyder was the winning pitcher. He went 7 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit with 7 strikeouts. Evan Suarez was credited with the save after pitching two scoreless innings and recording three strikeouts.

In game two Saturday, Louisburg was defeated by Florence-Darlington 9-2 in nine innings. The Hurricanes were held scoreless until Sparber grounded into a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth that scored Brian Wilson. Weisner and Quintin Smith both recorded two hits in the game. However, the Hurricanes left 9 on base. Brandon Rodgers received the loss giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits in 6.1 innings of work. He had 9 strikeouts. Ethan Snyder came on and gave up 3 runs of his own in the final 1.2 innings.

In game three Sunday, Louisburg defeated USC Lancaster 14-8. The Hurricanes had 15 hits in the contest including 2 doubles from Zach Stanko. Weisner and Sparber each had 1. Sparber also homered. RBIs included: Sparber (4), Weisner (3), Stanko (3), and Ahmaad Goldson. Wilson, Stanko, Goldson, and Danny Sadler all had stolen bases. Lane Roberson, Colbie Howell, and Bradley Wilbourne all took the mound for the Hurricanes. Howell was credited with the win, and Wilbourne struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

In game four Sunday, Louisburg was defeated by USC Sumter 13-7. USC Sumter scored 5 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Stanko was 2-3 with 2 RBI. Kody Abrisz was 2-4 with 2 RBI. Sparber, Stanko, and Goldson all homered. Six Louisburg pitchers threw in the game, while Jake Roberti took the loss.

Blake Herring's team finished the season with a 31-22 overall record. They were 11-11 in Region 10 play.
