Baseball strong up the middle

Louisburg College baseball took the field on Tuesday in a match up against Camp Community College. The Hurricanes won 9-4.

Louisburg struck first scoring 4 runs in the first two innings, but by the end of 4 it was all tied up. From that point, the Hurricanes held Camp scoreless while adding 5 more runs to seal the 9-4 victory.

Center fielder Trendon Craig went 4-5 on the day with a homerun, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored

The middle infield, Jonah Beamon and Logan West, had 3 hits each. Jared Glinski contributed a homerun. Chris Sparber, Kody Abrisz, David Cucci also each had 1 hit. Sparber added a sacrifice fly to round out the Hurricane offense.

Louisburg coach Blake Herring commented, "The middle of our field--our catcher, shortstop, second baseman, and centerfield--carried us offensively with 11 hits between them. That's what it means to be strong up the middle."

Louisburg pitching only gave up five hits. Bradley Wilbourne was the starter. He gave up 4 runs (2 earned) in 3.2 innings. Brandon Rodgers (1-0) go the win giving up 4 hits in 4.1 innings while recording 5 strikeouts. Edmund Kayhko completed the scoreless 9th for the Hurricanes.

"We had two arms get some extended time on the mound and that was good to see because we have been staffing midweek games," said Coach Herring. "We didn't know how they would react going multiple innings and it is good to know that if needed, we have arms in the pen that can eat up innings."

The win moves Louisburg to 15-4 in Region X play. The Hurricanes will take the field again this weekend in a four game series at Florence-Darlington Technical College. The first pitch will be Saturday at 1:00 pm.
