Dragum, Camp sign letters of intent

Louisburg College shortstop Jack Dragum has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his education at the University of North Carolina Charlotte.

"Jack was having a season to remember," according to Louisburg College coach Blake Herring. "I believe if we finish playing out the year and he stays on the tear he was on, he ends up being the Region Player of the Year and a candidate for NJCAA All American."

However, Dragum's sophomore season was limited to 79 plate appearances in 19 games due to cancellations to limit the spread of COVID-19. He finished the season with had 20 RBIs on 28 hits including 6 home runs. Dragum had a .431 batting average .532 on base percentage, and an .800 slugging percentage—only striking out 5 times on the season. He also had a 2-1 record from the mound for the Hurricanes in 4 appearances and 16 innings pitched. Dragum struck out 23 batters and only walked 5.

Coach Herring continued, "Jack had enormous amounts of stress on him being seen as the big-time ACC transfer. Adding to that pressure he hit leadoff, played shortstop and was a weekend starting pitcher; but Jack came in and earned respect from the players around him by being a normal guy. He was the spark plug, if he was on we were going to be on."

Another sophomore, Drew Camp, was a standout first baseman at Louisburg College whose 2020 season was also cut short. Even so, Camp was able to sign a National Letter of Intent to University of South Carolina Upstate.

Coach Herring said of Camp, "Drew played third base for us as a freshman and returned to first base as a sophomore.  His natural position is first base and you could see the confidence he had in himself when he would take ground balls, work around the bag with his feet and pick balls out of the dirt from other infielder throws."

Camp had 61 plate appearances in 18 games in 2020. He batted in 8 runs on 12 hits, reaching base successfully 24 times. When the season was abruptly ended he had a .255 batting average, .400 on base percentage, and a .404 slugging percentage. Camp hit 6 home runs in two seasons as a Hurricane.

Coach Herring noted, "Drew has been a leader in the infield for us this season and was a middle of the order hitter in our lineup.  Offensively, he was a patient hitter that had some big time pop in his bat.  He was just starting to get it rolling at the plate when the season ended. Drew goes on to play for Mike McGuire who coached at Louisburg College in 2012."
