Baseball outscores Pitt 11-9

Louisburg College baseball took on Pitt Community College for the third time this season and with a win moved the series to 2-1.

In the early going Louisburg gave up 4 runs on 5 hits, but in the bottom of the 3rd the Hurricanes scored 5 to take the lead. David Cucci started the scoring with a bunt single that scored Jonah Beamon. Then left fielder Trendon Craig hit a grandslam.

Pitt tied it back up at 5 in the 4th, but Louisburg continued scoring of their own off Jack Dragum and Cucci RBIs. In the bottom of the 7th Louisburg offense did more damage as Phillip Boykin hit a 2-run homer and Matthew Cotter had an RBI double also to left field.

The Hurricanes scored 11 runs on 12 hits and only left 4 on base. Bradley Wilbourne was the winning pitcher on 3.1 innings of work, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. Tyler Hall got his first save of the season. He recorded 6 outs—5 were strikeouts. The final score was 11-9.

Louisburg baseball will enter the weekend series against Spartanburg Methodist 12-3. The first game begins Saturday at 1:00 on Frazier Field.
