Baseball wins 3 of 4

Louisburg College baseball took 3 out of 4 at home last weekend against Cuyahoga Community College. 

Tyler Shepherd started the first game for the Hurricanes. He went 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits on the way to a 9-3 victory. Louisburg RBIs came from Dawson Painter (2), Blake Burchett (2),  Jack Dragum, Trendon Craig, Landon Smith, and Jonah Beamon.

In the second game of the series Louisburg began with a leadoff homerun from pitcher Jack Dragum to start of a 4 run first. In the 2ndDragum gave up a homerun to Cuyahoga first baseman Jack Williams, but the Louisburg offense quickly countered with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 2ndon an error, a ground out and a walk. At the end of 2 it was Louisburg ahead 7-1. The Hurricanes went on to win the game 10-3 behind additional pitching efforts by Tyler Hall and Joe Hastings. Right fielder Dawson Painter went 2 for 4 on the afternoon with 4 RBIs to lead the Hurricanes offense.

In game 3, Cuyahoga shortstop Jeremiah Cangelosi hit a grand slam in the top of the 2ndto take a 5-0 lead. Louisburg scored 1 in the 2ndinning and 3 in the 3rdinning to make in 5-4 on 2 Phillip Boykin homeruns and a Dylan Benton single. However, it wasn't enough as Louisburg had 9 left on base. Cuyahoga won 7-5.

The final match up showcased excellent performances from Ahmaad Goldson and Edmund Kayhko pitching 8 innings of shutout baseball. Goldson had 6 strikeouts and Kayhko had 5. After 8 innings the Hurricanes were leading 10-0. The final score was 10-4. The Hurricanes had 12 hits in the game including a 3 for 4 game from centerfielder Phillip Boykin, adding 2 more homeruns to his weekend. Jack Dragum also homered in the game.

On the weekend Louisburg advances to 11-3 on the season. The Hurricanes will play host to Pitt Community College on Wednesday at 3 pm on Frazier Field.
