Baseball sweeps Monroe

Louisburg College baseball matched up for a four game series against Monroe Community College last weekend at Frazier Field. The Hurricanes won all four contests. 

In the first game of the weekend Louisburg won 5-1 on the heels of a Tyler Shepherd (2-0) complete game. He allowed 5 hits and 1 run with 6 strikeouts. Monroe made three errors in the game which contributed to one earned run. Jack Dragum, Dawson Painter had RBIs for the Hurricanes. Trendon Craig also homered in the 4th.

The second game included several lead changes, but the Hurricanes still came out on top. In the bottom of the 1ststarting pitcher Jack Dragum homered. Monroe scored 1 in the 2ndand 3rdto take the lead, but Louisburg countered in the bottom of the 3rdon a Dylan Benton double to right field. Monroe again scored in the top of the 5thto make it 3-2, but Louisburg scored 6 runs in the bottom of the inning including a grand slam by Dylan Benton, and RBIs from Cotter and Beamon. The final score was 9-4 Louisburg. 

Sunday's first game ended 16-6. Louisburg RBIs included hits from Jack Dragum (6), David Cucci (4), Trendon Craig (1), Drew Camp (1), Phillip Boykin (1), and Matt Cotter (1). The winning pitcher for Louisburg was K.J. Wells. He went 4 innings. Ryan Mabry went 1.

The final game of the weekend sweep also ended in a 10 run win for the Hurricanes. Neither team scored in the first two innings, but the runs came in the 3rdand the 4th. Louisburg scored 12 runs after only coming to the plate in 4 innings. Louisuburg's 7 hits were supplemented by 2 Monroe errors and had 8 walks. Dylan Benton hit his second homerun of the weekend and collected his 9thRBI. Ahmaad Goldson was the winning pitcher in the 12-2 victory.

Louisburg baseball returns to action Wednesday at home against Lenoir Community College. The first pitch is at 3:00 pm.
