Canes Earn Spot In Championship Game

Louisburg Softball earned its chance at the Region X title with a 8-0 win over Harford on Saturday at the conference tournament in Allendale, SC. Behind a solid start in the circle from freshman Savannah Jackson, the Canes pounded out 13 hits in their 34th victory this season.

Jackson, who is 11-2 this season in the circle, allowed just two hits, struck out two, and walked none in an outstanding four innings. The Canes defense recorded 9 assists and stranded 7 of the Fighting Owls' baserunners behind her.

At the plate, freshman Player of the Year Monica Pepe led the offensive charge going 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, and a stolen base. Sophomores Tiffany Ellison, Haley Hutchins, and Priscila Sanchez also recorded multi-hit games. Ellison was 2-for-3 with a double, Hutchins was 2-for-2 with 2 walks, and Sanchez was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI.

"I was really impressed with PJ (Jackson) on the mound today. She had fantastic command of her pitches today and really went after the hitters," said head coach Michelle Carlson. "Our hitters took an excellent approach at the plate. We have been working hard on getting back to driving good pitches, and today we saw that work in action. This was a terrific experience for our team heading into the Championship tomorrow."

Louisburg will face USC Salkehatchie for the Region X title tomorrow, Sunday, April 23rd at noon.
