Louisburg Wins Three of Four at Union

UNION, S.C. -- Louisburg College made an upward move in the Region X standings by taking three of four contests last weekend at the University of South Carolina-Union.

Last Saturday's doubleheader was a profitable one for LC as the Hurricanes swept the proceedings by scores of 5-2 and 11-4.

Union clawed back in Sunday's opener with a 5-4 decision before Louisburg claimed the series with an 11-8 conquest in the finale.

Following the successful journey, the Hurricanes improved to 12-15 overall and 6-8 in the region, which is good enough for fifth place.

"It was a good weekend considering we were able to win a region series for the first time this year,'' said LC head coach Blake Herring. "We started slowly with our bats both days, but we started to get things going about midway through the first game.

"Hopefully, we are starting to warm up with the weather.''

First baseman Darius Nobles enjoyed a huge weekend for the Hurricanes as he went 7-for-12 overall with two home runs, one triple, three walks and eight RBI.

Needing a victory to seal up the series in the finale, Louisburg got the job done in Sunday's nightcap as Nobles (3), Justin Oakley (2) and Landon Smith (2) combined for seven RBI.

The host Bantams tried to make a late push, but Louisburg's Jordan Gay worked two scoreless innings to earn his fourth save of the 2019 campaign.

Louisburg will step away from its league schedule this weekend for a three-game road series at Lenoir Community College in Kinston.

A doubleheader will begin Saturday at noon, and the series will close Sunday with a single game, also at noon.
