Volleyball Falls in Region Quarterfinals

Volleyball Falls in Region Quarterfinals

After a hard-fought victory on Saturday afternoon, Louisburg College volleyball secured their placement in the NJCAA Region X Tournament. In the first round of Quarterfinals the Lady Canes faced #2 ranked Cape Fear Community College.

With an early regular-seaon conference match resulting in a 3-0 loss, the Hurricanes were determined to challenge the Sea Devils on the home court. This would prove to be no easy feat as the talented, sophomore laiden Cape Fear team posted frequent conference sweeps. The first set of the match resounded the tournament aspirations of the Sea Devils team handing a 25-15 set loss to the Hurricanes. With the pressure on, sophomore outside hitter, Mckenna Griffin, stated heroic efforts for the Lady Canes on both offense and defense. Set two victory went to the Hurricanes 25-21. With the turn of the third set came challenging injuries for key starters in the Hurricanes line up and another 25-15 set victory for the Sea Devils. Entering the third set with three different line-up changes, the Lady Cane fought back despite out of system chaos. Valient efforts came to a challenging end with a mere two point loss late in the fourth set, granting the semi-final bid to Cape Fear.

The Hurricane's volleyball team concludes their 2021 season rising four places above their 2019 finish. In addition to team accomplishments, the Hurricanes volleyball team holds three top-5 leaders in the Region X conference for individual statistics. First year players hold these titles: Naudika Howard (MB) #3 in Blocks per Set, Shyann McClain (S) #4 in Service Aces per Set, Emily Loucks (LB) in Digs per Set.

Head Coach, Haley Price, commented: "I cannot express how proud I am of our girls tonight. They faced many unforseen challenges on our side of the court. While tonight's match did not go in our favor, the effort shown to improve week after week - even at the end of our season - is a huge step in the right direction for our program. We will continue to build this foundation as we progress towards a new season in just a few short months."

The Hurricanes Volleyball team will return to the court in August 2021 with hopes of a more traditional regular-season structure and look forward to the expansion of Region X to include 14 member colleges in the Fall of 2021.
