Hurricanes women soccer team lose 3-1 vs USCS

Women's Soccer was defeated on Saturday by USC Salkehatchie 3-1 in Allendale, South Carolina.

The Canes started off out of sorts. Salkehatchie scored their first goal on a penalty kick after Louisburg made a foul in the box, but Louisburg tied it 1-1 at half time. The goal was off a free kick from Markela Avent. She sent it into the box for a Miracle Scott finish. That was one of Louisburg's only opportunities to score. According to Coach Soto, "We had a few good plays going up the field combination-wise, but didn't have the numbers to get in the box and finish."

In the second half, Salkehatchie earned their second goal with beautiful execution. Their third goal came in the last three minutes of the game in chaos in the box and they found the back of the net.

"For the most part it was good competition," said Soto. "We didn't play up to our level and Salkehatchie took advantage of that."

Qyataisha Champy was productive for the Canes at center back. According to Coach Soto, "She keeps the team positive. She is very vocal for us and keeps the defense in line. She really stood out for us this game. She attacked every ball and won every ball that came her way."

The Hurricanes are excited to get better with a week of practice in preparation for Tuesday, October 15 at 4:00 when the Lady Canes host Richard Bland at Ronald May Field.
