Lady canes soccer get a big win by defeating Southwest VIrginia 4-0

It was an enjoyable Saturday afternoon at Ronald R. May Field as the Louisburg College women's soccer team was able to get their first win, while playing on their home field. After struggling against a talented Wake Tech, the girls really needed this win to see the team's potential while battling adversity.

Both teams struggled with numbers. Louisburg had no subs and Southwest VA only had one. Then, unfortunately, both teams went down to no subs. It was a great game from both sides. Southwest VA's goalkeeper, Emily Ledford, played a phenomenal game making several crucial saves, but it was not enough as the Hurricanes prevailed with a 4-0 victory.

According to Head Coach Sierrah Soto, "we have improved on team chemistry and are working together on the field. We also suffered from several injuries at the start of our season, so this game we were able to play with a full team of 11 on the field. Being that we did not have subs, I really emphasized hydrating, nutrition and fitness levels in order for us to last the entire 90 minutes and the team did great at that going into this game."

Louisburg showed incredible drive while working really well as a team and lifting each other up when play began to get sloppy.

"Offensively we moved the ball well," said Soto, "We let the ball do the work by maintaining possession and making runs going forward. However, we must continue to work on maintaining our formation defensively."

Markela "Kela" Avent showed leadership—talking to the team the entire game to keep the formation together as well as encouraging her teammates. She also made several runs forward from our defensive line and opened up chances for us to score.

For the Lady Canes, Glocia "Pinky" Freeman had several shots and as well as an assist to Miracle Scott. Freeman also made several plays that allowed Louisburg the opportunity at goal. She also dropped back and played as a defender. Goals were scored by Miracle Scott (2), Alexis Propst, and Markela Avent

The Lady Canes suffered a couple of crucial injuries in the game and are hoping to get their full roster back on the field in order to prepare for the contest against Cape Fear on Saturday the 28th
