Lady canes Basketball get a thrilling win over the Southern Maryland Hawks in Overtime 98-89

It was a back and forth battle for four quarters between Louisburg College women's basketball and the College of Southern Maryland Hawks.

Down 3 with under 10 seconds to go, the Hawks were fouled on a three point attempt. The ensuing free throws tied the game at 81 and forced overtime.

Caleah Smith and Emma Hales connected on 3 three pointers in the extra period. Combined with key baskets from Jainaya Jones and free throws from Sydni Duncan, the Hurricanes outscored the Hawks 17-8 in overtime.

"I'm really proud of how our team hung in when things were not going our way at times.  We could have made any excuse to lose the game but they fought and found a way to win," said Louisburg Head Coach Jason Rasnake after the game.  "Nyla Bryant came through today scoring 27 points and forcing key turnovers while battling an illness that kept her from practicing the past two days."

The Lady Hurricanes are now 9-3 on the season and 5-2 in Region X play. The team will finish up their exams Monday and have a long break for Christmas. The next game is scheduled for January 15th at 5pm back in Taylor Arena
