Four Softball Players Named NFCA All-Americans

LOUISBURG -- Accolades continue to pour in for the Louisburg College softball team after its star-studded 2019 campaign.

LC, coached by Eric Lee, went 38-11 overall and won the Region X Tournament Championship en route to competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament, where the Lady Hurricanes reached the Elite Eight.

Four players from that club have earned spots on the National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association's Division II All-American Team.

Leading the way for LC is third baseman Haleigh Joyner, who was a First-Team All-American selection -- one of only 15 players nationally to receive that prestigious honor.

Joyner, a freshman from Garner, paced the Lady Hurricanes with a whopping .490 batting average to go with 17 home runs and 65 RBI.

Three Lady Hurricanes were tabbed as Second-Team All-Americans -- sophomore pitching ace Mary Anna Clement, sophomore leadoff hitter Mason Hedgecock and freshman second baseman Sarah Hilton.

Hedgecock has already signed to continue her career at East Carolina University, while Clement is choosing between Elon and Lenoir-Rhyne.

Joyner and Hilton are both expected back next season for the Lady Hurricanes.

Louisburg College's quartet of All-Americans was the most by any school nationally.

"This just continues to legitimize us as a program that has a national presence,'' Lee said. "We are starting to receive respect  nationally that we have not seen in awhile. It's tough sledding for Region X softball schools to get national awards.''
