Louisburg Stars Saluted In Region X

BURLINGTON -- Five Louisburg  College standouts have earned spots on the annual All-Region X Softball Team for the 2019 campaign.

Making the first team from LC were a trio of freshmen -- second baseman Sarah Hilton, outfielder Mason Hedgecock and third baseman Haleigh Joyner.

Louisburg's second-team picks were sophomore pitcher Mary Anna Clement and freshman first baseman LeeAnn Nobles.

"For me, it's really exciting to know that the work these kids have done went noticed,'' said LC head coach Eric Lee. "All of these kids have different stories of how they got to this point.''

Joyner enjoyed an amazing campaign for the Lady Hurricanes as she led the club in batting average (.518), homers (17) and RBI (63).

Hedgecock, LC's leadoff ace, slapped her way to an effective .476 with 56 runs scored and 24 RBI.

Hilton was one of the club's biggest surprises as she batted .486 with eight home runs and 50 RBI.

On the second team, Clement was sharp in her second campaign as LC's ace hurler. She went 9-4 with a 2.12 ERA and also batted .348 with four longballs and 28 RBI.

Rounding out the list was Nobles, who earned a starting position early in the year and went on to bat .373 with 12 home runs to go with 42 RBI.

Joyner, Hedgecock and Hilton also picked up All-American nominee honors. That final list will be announced in a few weeks.

Paul D. Camp's Morgan Owens was the Player of the Year, and Pitt's Janna Dawson was the Pitcher of the Year.

Pitt's Jennie Harp was the league Coach of the Year.

Pitt won the regular season crown, but Louisburg College was the tournament champion -- and claimed a berth in the upcoming JUCO World Series.
