UNC Greensboro Head Softball Coach Janelle Breneman announced Wednesday the signing of Louisburg College short stop, Monica Pepe.  Pepe signed her Athletics Grant In Aid and National Letter of Intent in a ceremony at Sheilah R. Cotten Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Pepe is an infielder from Hickory, North Carolina. Under head coach Eric Lee, she has batted .480 this season with two home runs, 17 RBIs and 27 runs in 23 games played. She ranks 42nd in the National Junior College Athletic Association in on-base percentage (.567) and 60th in stolen bases (18) and was one of 15 players to be named a preseason All-American. She has reached base in every game and opened the season on a 10-game hitting streak. On Wednesday she was named the Outstanding Female Student Athlete of the Year at Louisburg College. At Saint Stephens High School she was a four-time all-conference, all-district and all-state selection.  The sophomore standout will graduate in May with her Associates Degree in Science.

The Hurricanes (19-7, 9-1 Region X) winners in 13 of their last 14 outings, will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Richard Bland to town for a double header.  First pitch is slated for 1pm.
