Softball Splits with Spartanburg Methodist in Region X Matchup

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Louisburg Hurricanes split a doubleheader on the road with the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers this Thursday. It was the first meeting of the two teams this year.

Game 1 (LC 4 – SMC 2)

They repeated the trick in the top of the third when they scored twice more to make it 4-0 going into the bottom of the inning.

Spartanburg (16-17) quickly responded with two of their own in the third, coming off Hurricanes' starter, Mary Anna Clement. Those were the only runs they could manage as Clement spread out seven hits over seven innings and allowed just one earned run, when she yielded a two-run homer to the Pioneers' Whittney Purdy. Teammate Mckinley Johnson was on base for SMC and scored an unearned run on the round-tripper from Purdy.

Offensively for the Hurricanes, they received hits from Clement, Olivia Garman, and Summer Phillips.

Clement went on to earn the win. Josey was saddled with the loss after pitching just two innings before getting relieved by sophomore Charlsy Taylor.
