Cross Country Women Run Season's Bests, Men Falter at Royals XC Challenge

The Women Hurricanes Cross Country team ran their best race of the season in Charlotte at the Queens Royals XC Challenge. All four of the Canes women ran a new season's best time on the flat course. Adanna Thomas led the way with a 22:51 time for the 5k course. Imperial Harris was not far behind finishing in 23:01. Freshman Alana Morgan ran a new personal best time of 23:38 in third for the Canes. Unfortunately injuries caused the Canes to not score a full team for the second straight weekend.

"The women were impressive for us Saturday," said Coach Harvey. "Their times have consistently been getting better the whole season, and to see a personal best set is great. It was a warm and dusty day at the course so our women's team showed great perseverance with these performances."

On the Men's side, it was a step down for many from a great performance last weekend. Henry Coddington was first for Louisburg in 27:02 over the 8k course and Kyle Owino finished 2nd for the team, his highest placement on the team this year, in 28:05. Coach Harvey commented, "Our men responded poorly to the large, competitive field for the race. There was a little bright spot with Kyle Owino getting closer to going under 28 minutes, but anytime you have a couple guys have to drop out and can't score on the men's side it's not going to be your day."

The Canes will look to get healthy over the next two weeks to compete well at the NJCAA Region X Championships on October 26th in Spartanburg, SC.
