Hurricanes mens cross country opened the season at the Elon XC Opener

Friday night, August 30th, the 'Canes Men opened their season at the Elon XC Opener in Elon, NC. They faced off on the 6k course against many Division 1 teams including Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Greensboro, and more. The 'Canes finished 8 out of 12 teams, beating 2 D1 teams in the process.

The young Hurricanes were led by freshman Henry Coddington, finishing 31st in 19:19.2. Sophomore Dennis McCheskey was second across the line for the team in 70th place. The top 5 scorers had an average 6k time of 20:58. Coach Harvey was pleased with how the team competed saying, "Anytime 4 out of your top 5 are freshmen, you're never sure of how the first race is going to go but I think we have a great starting point to work with. I'm excited to get back to training and have everyone ready to race again soon."

Next up for the Men is the USC Upstate Eye Opener on September 13th.

The Women will open up their season this Saturday, September 7th at the Catawba Fleet Feet XC Invite.
