Hurricanes new cross country coach coach Brandon Harvey looking forward to the 2019 season

Coach Brandon Harvey was hired on August 7th, and six days later his student-athletes returned to campus.

The Louisburg College men's and women's cross-country teams have had four hard workouts so far and even went to Umstead Park in Raleigh for their first long run.

Coach Harvey commented, "It seems like most people have been working hard over the summer, and have gained a lot of fitness very quickly over the course of the first two weeks. For a young team, I've been pleasantly surprised with how quickly everyone is coming around to the new style of training."

Workouts have been focusing on the aerobic strength. Coach Harvey realizes that a lot of the younger athletes have not had much aerobic strength training before and has decided to spend the majority of time on that for the next few weeks.

The Elon Eye Opener on Friday will be a good test for the men, although the team will not be taking a step back in training. Coach Harvey is looking forward to seeing how well they compete within the race. The women will open up at Catawba College next weekend, giving a middle distance focused squad an opportunity to show what they can do on the cross-country course.

It is an exciting time of year for a lot of young athletes to get their start competing on the college level. Coach Harvey and Coach Sebie are looking forward to seeing what the Hurricanes have in the tank for the 2019 season.
