Canes Sweep Regionals for the First Time Since 2014

For the first time since 2014 the Louisburg Hurricanes won both the Men's and Women's Region X titles in an impressive display Saturday in Spartansburg.
 
The Lady Canes had a solid all around performance with their depth overwhelming the Spartansburg Methodist College team who came second. Louisburg put all five of their runners in front of the SMC third for a solid victory while averaging their best time of the season. The Hurricanes were led by Halei ward who came 2nd with a time of 21:07, while Hailey Ehuler 3rd in a time of 21:08, Imperial Harris 4th, in 21:30, Michaela Ackerman 6th in 21:56, and Adanna Thomas 7th in a time of 21:59 all came in the top 7 to score for Louisburg. While Ashley Pearce 20th, and Kayla Hatley 22nd rounded out the Canes squad.
 
It was much of the same in the Men's race as the 13th ranked hurricanes dominated the field in route to their 5th straight Region X Championship. The hurricanes placed all five of their runners before the first runner for the second place Spartansburg Methodist Pioneers scoring a perfect 15 points. The canes were led by Kyle Hinson who won his first collegiate cross country meet in a time of 26:10, and he was followed by Andrew Inman 2nd in 26:19, Albert Norman 4th in 26:54, Anthony Hall, 5th in 27:48, while Walker Hirsch completed the scoring for the Canes placing 6th in a time of 27:54. Dennis McChesky 9th, Maleik Smalls 12th, Justin Olivas 13th, and Zaire Jordan 20th rounded out the Team for Louisburg.
 
"I'm very proud that both the men's and women's teams won the region" said Region X Coach of the Year Josh Hayman. " The girls team especially put in a lot of effort throughout the season, and I am very happy that they were rewarded for it with a Region X title, and their first trip to Nationals in a few years. I expect both teams to continue to perform incredibly in Kansas."
Both teams will be competing next at the NJCAA Division One Cross Country Championships In Garden City, Kansas on November 10th.
