Canes Post 2 Nationals Qualifiers, 2 School Records in First Indoor Meet

The Hurricanes Track and Field teams traveled to Christopher Newport University and started the indoor season on the right foot Sunday at the CNU Holiday Open.

In the Men's 60m hurdles, Tayshaun Chisholm and Aveon Reid ran national qualification marks in the final with times of 8.07 and 8.16 respectively. They are starting right where they left off with those season openers being less than a tenth of a second off their personal bests. 

In the Men's 60m sprint Tyler burns ran a personal best time of 7.04 that is also a new Louisburg record. Tyler made it through to the finals in the 60m where he brought home a first place finish for the Canes.

Louisburg was dominant in the Men's 200m dash, finishing with 1-2-3-6 placements by Aveon Reid, Tyler Burns, Tayshuan Chisholm, and Nigel Cobb. On the Women's side, Bethany Blackwell and Domonique Branch both ran indoor PRs in the 200m.

On the field event side, Kendrick Lewis qualified for the long jump final where he jumped a school record 6.70 meters.

The Hurricanes next competition will be January 24th at the Liberty Kickoff.
