Four Hurricanes Ink Track and Field Deals

LOUISBURG -- Now comes the next step for the fledgling Louisburg College track and field program.

At only two years old, the Hurricanes' tracksters are still in a developmental phase -- and one important piece of that puzzle is being able to send student-athletes to the next level to continue and complete their collegiate careers.

That's why LC head coach Josh Hayman was excited to announce that four LC sophomores (all members of the school's first-ever incoming recruiting class), have signed letters-of-intent to join four-year programs.

Those student-athletes are Anthony Hall (University of Mount Olive), Zach Boyers (University of South Carolina-Upstate), Orlandus Gamble (Indiana Tech) and Kyle Hinson (University of Charleston, West Virginia).

"This is the main path I sell to (prospective athletes),'' Hayman said. "I am going to do everything I can to make sure that every athlete we have will graduate and move on to compete at a four-year college.''

Here is a look at each of the outgoing Hurricanes:

-- Anthony Hall -- A middle distance/cross country specialist, Hall finished 10th and 11th nationally in his two seasons for the Hurricanes. He also competed in the indoor track nationals in 2018 and joins a Mount Olive program that is known for developing quality distance performers.

-- Zach Boyers -- Louisburg College's first-ever Division I signee, Boyers will head to the Palmetto State after a star-studded career at LC that featured All-American status this season in both the indoor and outdoor nationals in the shot put. Boyers, who owns a personal best of 53-9, was recently named as the National Junior College Athletic Association's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year for the Atlantic Region.

-- Orlandus Gamble -- Gamble was a two-time All-American high jumper at LC who became the school's first All-American in track and field history last year. Gamble won three invitational championships this season and boasts a PR of 6-10.75. He joins an Indiana Tech program that is regarded as one of the country's best on the NAIA level.

-- Kyle Hinson -- Hinson, one of the most decorated distance runners LC has ever produced, will head to Charleston, where he will be reunited with former Hurricane teammate Jack Mastandrea. Hinson is LC's school record holder in the 5,000 and 10,000 and has earned a combined five All-American awards in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field. Hinson took third place nationally in the 5K this spring with a time of 14:25 -- a new Hurricanes' standard by a whopping 40 seconds. In cross country, Hinson helped LC to back-to-back Region X titles, along with an eighth-place national team performance in 2018.
