Canes Start Season with Success

The Louisburg Hurricanes began their outdoor campaign with a number of stellar performances at the High Point VertklasseInvitational on Friday and Saturday. 

The meet began with couple solid distance performances with Kyle Hinson posting a top 15 performance in the 1500 meter race. Andrew Inman and Albert Norman also came top 15 in the 5000 Meters while Hailey Euhler ran the third fastest outdoor 5000 meter race in Louisburg history with a time of 20:47.

Saturday saw the track team continue their success with Qua-Ronz Robinson breaking 2 minutes for the first time as a Hurricane, running 1:57.22 to place second in the morning session of races. 

Thrower Zach Boyers threw a PR of 16.17 in the Shot Put in a very consistent fashion. Zach threw over 16 meters three times in the 6 throws of the competition. 

On the sprint side the canes got off to a stellar start in the 100 Meter races. Tyler Burns, Zion Munnelyn, Dequan Lynn, and Aveon Reid all began their outdoor season by running faster then the previous Louisburg record of 11.25 seconds in the 100 meter event. Aveon and Dequan became the first canes to break 11 in the 100 meters running 10.98 and 10.99 respectively. 

The 200 meters featured breakthrough performances as 5 Canes (Malcolm Wade, Nigel Cobb, Dequan Lynn, Tayshaun Chisholm, and Tyler Burns) broke the 23 second barrier, an impressive feat considering only 2 runners have been able to break 23 in the history of Louisburg College. On the Women's side both Ashley Pearce, and Tamiyah Megginson put together strong races with Ashley running 26.14, and Tamiyah running 26.52. 

In the 400 times were hard to come by due to heavy winds, but the Canes outlasted their opponents with 3 heat victories Jairus Page, Levin Koonce, and Nigel Cobb all beat their competition on route to heat wins for the Canes. 

The day rounded out with a stellar performance by Tayshaun Chisholm who opened the season in a 14.53 second 110 Hurdle race. Tayshaun beat every collegiate athlete in the race only narrowly losing to professional athlete Ronnie Ash who is the 17th fastest 110 Hurdler of all time. 

The Canes continue their race schedule this Friday and Saturday. A limited squad will be headed to Raleigh Relays on Friday while the entire team will be competing Saturday at Mount Olive.
