‘Canes Have Record Performance at NJCAA Division 1 Nationals

The Hurricanes brought the storm to Pittsburg, Kansas for D1 Nationals. In total, Louisburg brought home 5 All-Americans, 4 school record performances, and a highest ever 15th place finish for the second year program.

The competition started strong with Kyle Hinson in the 5,000. He improved upon his 5th place finish from 2018 to kick into 3rd place, narrowly missing the title by 1 second. His performance of 14:25.89 was a school record by 27 seconds. He doubled back to finish 11th in the 3,000 meter run a mere 5 hours later. Freshmen Andrew Inman competed in the 5,000 as well to run 15:31 and Albert Norman ran to a 10 second personal best in the 3,000 meter run.

The last big performance of the day was in the jumps. Freshman Tamiyah Megginson leaped to a school record in the long jump of 5.15. Sophomore Orlandus Gamble then cleared 2.00 meters in the high jump to finish in 8th place overall and claimed his first All-American status.

On Day 2 of the national meet, 3 more All-Americans were added by freshmen Hurricanes. Aveon Reid And Tayshaun Chisholm made the final of 60 Hurdles and finished 5th and 2nd respectively. Tayshaun's 2nd place finish is the highest ever individual finish by a Hurricane. The final All-American of the meet came from Walker Hirsch who qualified for the 1000 meter final and finished 8th in a school record performance of 2:30.94.

The meet completed with the 4x400 meter relay team running a new school record of 3:20.71 to finish 14th overall.
