Records Continue to Fall as Canes Continue Great Performances at Liberty Kickoff

The Louisburg Hurricanes Track Team continued to set school records and shoot up the national rankings list as they returned to the track for their second competition at the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg on Friday and Saturday. 

The Hurricane Men's team ranked 19th in the initial NJCAA National Poll, set 6 school records and added 2 to the national qualification list. The meet got started successfully on Friday as Kyle Hinson dominated the 5 000 meter Race to the tune of a 30 second win and a school record. Kyle's performance of 14:52.53 ranks him number one in the NJCAA. Andrew Inman also ran a national qualification mark with a time of 15:30 which ranks him 16th in the country. Albert Norman also ran in the 5K running a PR in a time of 15:57.

Saturday began much on the same note as Friday as Tayshaun Chisholm PR'd in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.18 which moves him up to 8th in the country, as Aveon Reid placed 7th with a time of 8.40. Tayshaun also tied the school record in the 200 with a time of 22.75, as Tyler Burns also PR'd with a time of 22.90. 

The 400 meters brought upon more school records as Levin Koonce ran 51. 56 to set the school record in the event. While Qua-Ronz Robinson ran a time of 1:06 in the 500 meter race also setting a school record. 

The day ended on a successful note as both the 4X400 meter relay and Zach Boyers closed the day with school records. The 4X400 meters ran a time of 4:24.17 beating Division One School Campbell by 4 seconds while cruising to a victory in their heat. While Zach Boyers crushed his former school record while throwing 16.07 meters. That mark moves him up to 7th in the NJCAA.

The women set three school records on the day as Tamiyah Megginson set a record in the Long Jump, Imperial Harris set a school record in the 1000 Meters, while Zaayla Wood set a school record in the Shot Put for the Lady Canes who came in ranked number 28 in the opening NJCAA Poll. 

Megginson followed up her school record from last week in the Triple Jump by Jumping 4.77 meters to also claim the school in the Long Jump. Wood set a school record with 11.46 meters in the Shot Put and the mark places her 26th on the national list. Imperial Harris had the lone school record on the track running 3:29 to set the school record in the 1000 Meter race.
