Hurricanes Compete in Season Opener for Outdoor

The Hurricanes opened the season with several top 10 finishes in the cold and rainy conditions Saturday at Mount Olive.

The highlighting performance was freshman Zach Boyers finishing 2nd in the Shot Put and 9th in Discus. He is currently ranked 7th in the country for the shot.

The other main performances from the weekend were Chancey Gunnell finishing 6th in the 400 meter with Quinton Adams finishing 5th, in a new school record, in the same event. Quinton also improved his record in the 200 by finishing 4th overall in the meet.

"This meet was great for the group getting out there and getting used to running on the outdoor oval and competing some events that they haven't done in over a year since last outdoor" stated Coach Hayman. "The weather may not have been great, but it did not hold us back from some great performances."

The Canes take a week off from competing until they head to High Point for the VertKlasse Meeting.
