Men's basketball lose a close game to Richard Bland over the weekend

In game five of the weekend Louisburg College men's basketball hosted Richard Bland College Saturday afternoon. The game did not end in the Hurricanes favor.

Hurricanes point guard Aaron Simmons had a tough day due to early foul trouble, capped off by a technical foul midway through the first half. "We never got into a flow offensively," said Coach Bryan Bagwell. "Coach Lacey did a great job preparing his guys. Their match up zone gave us trouble, and we were trying to figure it out instead of just attacking their defense."

For the first 10 minutes of the second half Richard Bland maintained a two point lead, but under the 8 minute mark Richard Bland was able to extend their lead to 7 points and Louisburg never recovered. The final score was 68-79 in the favor of Richard Bland. "I thought our ball screen defense was pretty solid," commented Coach Bagwell, "but we have to get better in all phases."

Freshman, Malik Bryant, led the Hurricanes with 19 points. De'Shone Hicks and Terrelle Bowens had 16 and 14 respectively.

Next week Louisburg College men's basketball will host four teams in the Roger Taylor Classic including: Brunswick Community College, Caldwell Community College, Fayetteville Technical Community College, and College of Southern Maryland. Games begin at 4:00 on Friday.
