Hurricanes Roll Past Patrick Henry

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College put together one of its most impressive all-around performances of the season last Saturday (February 9) as the Hurricanes surged to an 81-60 home victory over Region X opponent Patrick Henry Community College at Taylor Center on the LC campus.
Using a staunch defense to go with an effective, relentless dribble-drive offensive strategy, the Hurricanes took charge early and controlled the proceedings to improve to 12-12 overall for veteran head coach Neil Dixon.
Already ahead by seven points, Louisburg went on a 13-0 spurt in the first half to move ahead 30-10 when Andrew Abrom canned a trifecta just 5:46 in front of intermission.
By halftime, LC had closed out one of its best defensive halves of the campaign, limiting PHCC to just 21 points while leading 41-21.
Three players reached double figures in scoring for Dixon's club, led by Bunn native Aaron Simmons with 19 tallies to go with six rebounds. Jordan Beale (16) and Andrew Abrom (11) combined for 27 points.
Louisburg has five outings remaining in the regular season, beginning with a meeting Wednesday (February 13) at home versus league foe Bryant and Stratton. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. Heading into the important showdown, the surging Hurricanes have won four of their last five contests.
"We've got some ground to make up in the (Region X) standings, so I was glad we could get two wins (last week),'' Dixon said. "We'll try to do the same thing again this week.''
Last Wednesday (February 6), Louisburg defeated Davidson CC at home 94-72 behind a combined 53 points from Simmons (28) and DeShone Hicks (25).
