Men’s Basketball Wins At CSM

LA PLATA, M.D. – The Louisburg College men's basketball team captured its first road victory of the 2018-19 season on Saturday afternoon, besting Region XX power, College of Southern Maryland, 107-101 in a non-region contest.

The Hurricanes (4-2) got off to a quick start, leading at one point 11-2, but College of Southern Maryland fought to tie the game 20-20 by the twelve minute mark in the first half. Through early foul trouble the Hurricanes emptied the bench, played every player who was dressed in the first 20 minutes and were able to go into the locker room up 53-43.

"We need all twelve guys," says head coach Neil Dixon, "In particular, Todd Smith has been really good for us. We're asking him to do a lot. Because of injuries he's had to play the point for us, and he's getting better every game."

College of Southern Maryland men's basketball is coming off two consecutive Region XX tournament titles and national tournament appearances. On Saturday they showed similar perseverance starting second half on a 11-5 run slowing the Hurricanes' offensive tempo. Eventually, however, the Hurricanes' willed themselves to victory with 6 offensive rebounds for both Aaron Simmons and Andrew Abrom. Raekwon Dean added 4.

Leading scorers for the Hurricanes were Andrew Abrom with 27—25 of those coming in the second half. Raekwon Dean and Todd Smith both had 20.

After the game Coach Dixon commented, "We'll take any road win. We love our fans in Taylor Arena. Its different when you go on the road. It's a different routine, a different environment, and we just have to continue to get better."

 
The Hurricanes return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when they travel to Fayetteville, N.C. for their first Region X contest of the year against Fayetteville Technical Community College at 5:30 p.m.
