Comeback Falls Just Short for Men's Hoops

The Louisburg College Men's Basketball team played Spartanburg Methodist College on Tuesday night inside Roger Taylor Arena.  They now sit at 3-2 on the young season with one contest remaining before jumping into Region X play.

Coach Neil Dixon's squad trailed by as many as 24 in the game - including a 53-33 halftime deficit - before fighting back to within four points of the visiting Pioneers late at 88-84.  The Canes fell by a final score of 96-88, coming up just short of making a miraculous comeback.  Todd Smith and Andrew Abrom led the scoring efforts for Louisburg in the game with 23 points apiece.  Smith connected on five triples that led to the Louisburg run at the end of the game as a part of his 20-point second half effort.  Aaron Simmons also chipped in 13 points of his own.

"We are figuring things out day by day," said Dixon of his team.  "It's a process and we have a lot of new guys.  We play a difficult non-conference schedule that will only help us come time to play Region X opponents."

Next up for the Canes is a trip to La Plata, MD for a date with College of Southern Maryland on Saturday.  Tipoff is set for 3pm.
