Men’s Hoops Rolls Past Catawba Valley, 103-65

The Louisburg College Men's Basketball team defeated Catawba Valley Community College Saturday afternoon by a final score of 103-65. With the win, the Hurricanes improve to 16-3 overall and 9-1 in Region X play.

CVCC came out hot and made a pair of quick shots to lead 8-6, but Louisburg used a 35-1 run to lead 41-9 before a Catawba Valley timeout. The Canes closed the half on another run of 23-14 to lead 64-23 at the intermission.

The second half saw Louisburg put it in cruise control while Head Coach Neil Dixon was able to go deep into his bench using all twelve players that dressed on an afternoon completely controlled by the Canes.

The offense was powered by an early substitution for Seth McCoy leading to 24 points on the afternoon for him, including six of the team's 14 total from beyond the arc.

"We've really emphasized in practice getting the ball to Seth when he's open," said Dixon. "He's shooting right at 50 percent from three point range on the season."

The Canes have sunk a total of 33 triples over their last two outings, both wins.

Adding to McCoy's 24 were Lewis Freeman with 16, Jalen Gaddy (15), Jordan Oakley (12). Zach Reeves also chipped in nine points off the bench.

"I'm really happy with how we shared the ball tonight," Dixon said. "When you pass the ball the way we did today, good things are going to happen."

"We were very disappointed with our defensive effort Wednesday at Richard Bland and made defensive basics our focus in practice toward the end of the week. I'm really proud of our effort on that end of the floor."

Louisburg returns to action on the road at Wake Tech Monday evening.
