Oakley's 36 and 10 Not Enough As Canes Fall Short in Overtime, 99-94

The Louisburg College men's basketball team fell to Richard Bland College on Monday night by a final score of 99-94 in spite of a 36 point and 10 rebound outing from sophomore standout Jordan Oakley.  The loss drops the Canes to 13-4 on the season.

The first half was owned by Richard Bland as the Statesmen opened up a ten point lead headed to the intermission.  The Hurricanes didn't go away and fought their way back throughout the second half eventually tying the game up late in the period.  The teams couldn't decide it in regulation, so they played an extra 5 minutes of Overtime.

Overtime proved to be much of the same as the game was tied at 94 when the Statesmen hit the game winner with 5.9 seconds to play.

"It was a tale of two halves.  In the first half we argued and made excuses, but in the second we stuck together and played really hard," said Coach Neil Dixon.  "You just can't play the second half of a game against good teams and win."

The Hurricanes return to action on Wednesday when they host Lenoir Community College in Roger Taylor Arena for a 7pm tip.

"We just finished two tough road games and are back at it again Wednesday against Lenoir.  I can promise you they won't feel sorry for us losing or being tired."
