Canes Use Defense to Top BSC, 71-70

Coach Neil Dixon tells his team often that "defense travels". The Louisburg College men's basketball team won a Saturday afternoon contest on the road at Bryant and Stratton College 71-70 with defense.

The Hurricanes fell behind early but clawed their way back and used a short run to carry a seven point lead into the intermission. BSC fought their way back into the game early in the second half to lead before the teams traded leads back and forth throughout the frame.

Louisburg used a late burst to take a six point lead and held on to win the game and run their record to 13-3 on the season.

"Our defense won it for us today," said Coach Dixon. "We have the ability to do some different things defensively and the guys have done a great job buying in and changing on the fly."

"[I am] really proud of how we responded to adversity today.  It's not easy to win on the road - especially here."

"Armoni Lee was really good today.  He is just so tough and consistent. He's our glue guy and on the outside probably doesn't get the credit he deserves, but we sure know his value.  He's come so far in so many ways over the last year.  I'm glad he's on my team and I don't have to play against him"

The Canes return to the hardwood on Monday night in a critical Region X matchup with arch rival Richard Bland on the road. The game will be played as a makeup contest from last week's cancellation due to winter weather.
