Canes Lose Heartbreaker In National Championship Game

Louisburg, reaching the championship game for the first time in program history, fell to #1 Southwestern 77-52.

LC got on the board first with a layup, and took the advantage early in the first few minutes. Going into the half, the score was 31-26 and the Hurricanes trailed only by 6 points.

Around 14:00 minutes to go in the half, the Canes tied it up at 35. For the next 10 minutes the teams would battle defensively back and forth. At the 3:00 mark, the Spartans went on a run and Louisburg would never regain momentum. Southwestern made 15 of their last 16 free throw attempts to secure their spot as the 2017 National Champion.

Louisburg, who did not return a single player from the 2016 campaign, finished the season 30-5, and runner-up at the National Championship.
