Football tops Myrtle Beach Prep

Louisburg College football defeated Myrtle Beach Prep last Saturday at Louisburg High School.

"Our team played together and battled through a lot of adversity in this game," said Louisburg Coach Quinderra Spellman. "It wasn't a pretty win, but any win is a good win."

Louisburg was up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, and both teams scored a touchdown in the second quarter to make the halftime score 10-7. Myrtle Beach Prep took the lead in the 3rd quarter, but Louisburg scored 14 unanswered in the fourth for the Louisburg win 31-20.

Xzavier Fields had 3 tackles for loss including a sack and forced fumble. Teddy Wilson had a sack and a fumble recovery. Malachi Ruffin also had a sack. Other tackles for loss include: True Robinson, Jordon Miller, Malachi Grier, Devin Martin, Mikie Anderson, Brycen Thornton, and Kristopher Matthews.

Jeiel Melton had 7 carries for 106 yards including a touchdown and fumble recovery on special teams. He also had a kickoff return of 27 yards. Fred Foreman had 9 carries for 25 yards. Trey Lunsford had 9 carries for 24 yards and 2 touchdowns. Marriyon Rogers had 5 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Hurricane receivers Quantez Christian (52 yards) and Jayden Flood-Brown (69 yards) each had two catches.

The kickers for the Hurricanes made a huge contribution. Luis Nunez went 4-4 on point after kicks. Gavin Gundaker put three punts inside the 10 yard line, his longest being 61 yards. He also made a 47 yard field goal.

Reed Charpia was 13-22 passing with 160 yards, and Matthew Shannon was 2-3 for 17 yards passing.

Coach Spellmen also commented, "Our coaching staff has done a tremendous job preparing them week in and week out for what we will see on game day."

The win moves the Hurricanes to a 4-2 record. They will take on Ramah Prep at 1:00 Saturday.
