Monroe College football team ran away with a 44-7 victory over Louisburg College

Louisburg College Football took on Monroe College on Saturday afternoon. It was a tough challenge for the Hurricanes resulting in a 44-7 loss. With Saturday's loss, the Hurricanes fall to 1-2.

According to Assistant Coach Jonathan Hodges, "We have to take this game as a learning opportunity and grow as a defense. This week showcased the fact that we are still very inexperienced in a lot of spots and that we need to continue to focus on the fundamentals."  

David Drouet had 8 tackles to lead the defensive effort for the Hurricanes, but Monroe was able to convert on 6-of-14 third downs as well as get points from their defense to take a commanding lead. 

Offensive Coordinator, Zbig Kepa commented about the Hurricanes' offense, "The offensive line played pretty well. They had an active defensive line and we held our own at that spot. We ran the ball better than we threw the ball. That was the bright spot that we held up inside."  

Monroe's pass defense held the Hurricanes to 6 completions on 22 attempts for 102 total yards. Monroe had a few interceptions. The biggest was Charles Amankwaa's interception and return that closed out the first quarter, giving Monroe a 24-0 lead. The Hurricanes experienced much of the same in the second quarter. After halftime, however, each team put up 7 points respectively. 

The lone scoring play for the Hurricanes was a 55-yard touchdown pass from Murphy to Coleman at the two-minute mark in the 4^thquarter.   

Head Coach Chris Tolbert commented, "It was a better second half, but now our focus is on ASA Miami. They have two really big wide receivers and two really good quarterbacks. We have to sure up our pass coverage this week in practice."

The Hurricanes hit the road next weekend toplay ASA College Miami at Memorial Stadium in Savannah, GA. Kickoff is at noon Saturday.
