Tolbert Named LC's New Football Coach

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College has promoted from within to cap off a search for the school's new head football coach.

Accepting the position is Chris Tolbert, who has spent the past four years with the Hurricanes as a defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator.

Tolbert succeeds former boss Trevor Highfield, who guided LC through five successful campaigns before recently accepting a coaching position at Forks High School in the state of Washington.

"It's a great opportunity,'' Tolbert said. "We already have a great group of kids here, and we have 55 more coming in August. I am looking forward to getting everyone together and preparing for a new season.''

Tolbert, a native of Tabb, Virginia, will have big shoes to fill as Highfield led the Hurricanes to undefeated records in both 2016 and 2017 as part of his victory-filled tenure. But Tolbert thinks the fact that he has been at LC since 2015 -- and understands the type of student-athlete the program is looking for -- will help the program continue to thrive.

"Being here already is a tremendous benefit,'' Tolbert said. "I know the ins and outs of Louisburg College. And being the recruiting coordinator has helped me build relationships with guys before they get here.''

Tolbert, who graduated from Mississippi State University, has over 20 years of coaching experience and served on the staff of the tradition-rich prep program at Wake Forest High School before coming to LC. At Wake Forest, Tolbert helped develop the likes of recent National Football League draftees Dexter Lawrence and Bryce Love.
