Offense Aplenty For Canes In 49-35 Homecoming Victory
Louisburg (October 27, 2018) – The Louisburg Hurricanes football team ran its current winning streak to five games on Saturday after a 49-35 homecoming victory over Hocking College (Ohio). With the win, the Hurricanes are now 5-2 with two regular season games left on their schedule.
EJ Harris led Louisburg as they grounded out 359 net rushing yards. Harris ran 14 times for 116 yards and scored the game's first points on a 48-yard touchdown run less than two minutes into the contest. The Hawks (1-7) responded with a touchdown midway through the first quarter and the two teams moved into the second tied at 7-7.
In the second quarter, linebacker Costello Bussey scooped a loose fumble and 92 yards later scored the Hurricanes' second touchdown of the game. After that, the two teams alternated scores and went into the locker room with Louisburg up, 28-21.
In the third, the Hurricanes immediately put some distance on the Hawks as Elijah Rice returned the second-half opening kickoff 74 yards for a score. A touchdown run from JacobiEmery followed by a Nathan Harden touchdown strike to Makaius Brewer had Louisburg up, 49-21. A kickoff return by the Hawks to close the third got them within 21, and a second touchdown midway through the forth set the final score at 49-35.
On the afternoon, the Hurricanes were 9/14 on third down conversions, 1/1 on fourth down attempts, and scored on three out of four visits to the red zone.
