LC Standouts Saluted In Region X

LOUISBURG -- Four Louisburg College student-athletes earned honors last weekend on the All-Region X Baseball Team for the 2019 campaign.

LC's Phillip Boykin, a freshman outfielder, was picked for the First Team, while sophomore catcher Derek Neal and sophomore outfielder Justin Oakley were tabbed for the Second Team.

Neal and sophomore pitcher Tucker Rogers claimed Region Gold Glove Awards, and Neal was selected as the Region X Defensive Player of the Year.

Boykin enjoyed a huge first season at LC as he led the club in home runs (11) and RBI (37) while batting .289.

Neal was sharp both in the field and at the plate for the Hurricanes, batting .286 with two home runs to go with 12 RBI.

Oakley hit at a .324 clip with six longballs and 22 runs batted in. His brother, Jordan, was also an All-Region pick for LC in men's basketball two years ago.

Rogers served as Louisburg College's mound ace this spring and went 4-5 with a 3.65 earned-run average. He prepped at nearby Middle Creek High School in Wake County.

The top Region X honorees were as follows:

• Pitcher of the Year -- Jordan Jackson, Spartanburg Methodist

• Relief Pitcher of the Year -- Tristen Campbell, USC-Sumter

• Player of the Year -- Houston Wright, Spartanburg Methodist

• Coach of the Year -- Tim Wallace, Spartanburg Methodist

• Defensive Player of the Year -- Derek Neal, Louisburg College
