Hurricanes Win Pair At Lenoir

KINSTON -- Louisburg College took a weekend off from Region X baseball action -- but the Hurricanes were still in action Sunday for a twinbill at Lenoir Community College.

LC rode a pair of strong pitching efforts to secure victories by scores of 4-0 in the opener and 4-3 in the finale.

The Hurricanes, now 14-16 overall, got a sterling first-game performance from starting hurler Cole Leneschmidt, who allowed just four hits and zero walks while striking out eight as part of his complete-game outing.

LC broke open the tight contest with three runs in the top of the sixth as A.J. Triplin delivered a two-run single and Joshua Pittman came through with an RBI base knock.

In the nightcap, Louisburg plated a run in the top of the seventh and final inning to come up with the decision.

Connor Kannon's sacrifice fly in that frame proved to be the game-winner.

Chase Webb went 5.1 effective innings before giving way to Brandon Bradley, who earned the victory.

Jordan Gay tossed the bottom of the seventh to pick up a save.

"We pitched really well the whole day,'' said LC head coach Blake Herring. "It was good to see Cole get his first collegiate victory with a complete game.

"And Chase Webb threw well in the second game. He was able to overcome a few fielding miscues we had with bunts.''

Louisburg will host Bryant and Stratton on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Frazier Field before resuming its region schedule this weekend with a four-game road series at the University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie.

Doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday in the Palmetto State.
