LOUISBURG -- A collective short memory is imperative for a team to enjoy success in the Region X baseball standings.
Momentum can switch quickly in the middle of a four-game weekend league series -- and Louisburg used that intangible to bounce back after a disappointing doubleheader sweep at home against Florence-Darlington Tech.
During that twinbill, LC dropped both outings by a combined 28-10 score -- but the Hurricanes experienced better fortunes in Sunday's first game.
LC surged ahead early, then fell behind and then made a late rally to win a 5-4 thriller over the Stingers at historic Frazier Field on the LC campus.
The Hurricanes took charge early with a three-run first that featured a two-RBI single from Phillip Boykin and a one-run base knock from AJ Triplin.
FDTC rallied with a four-spot in the top of the third, only to see the Hurricanes respond in the bottom of the frame with a solo bast from Justin Oakley.
Neither club dented the scoreboard again until LC went ahead for good in the bottom of the sixth as Triplin scored off a Stingers' infield error.
Louisburg reliever Brett Clements gave up a leadoff double in the top of the seventh, but a key double play would end the contest in the Hurricanes' favor.
Clements allowed just one hit over 3.1 innings to earn the decision while improving to 3-1 overall for the season.
Florence-Darlington rebounded in the nightcap to secure a 9-5 victory.
Drew Camp's three-run homer in the bottom of the first got LC off to a good start, but the Hurricanes could not capitalize much from there on their 11 hits and two walks.
Still, Louisburg was ahead 5-2 going into the top of the seventh, but the Stingers erupted for seven runs in that stanza to go 3-1 for the weekend.
The Hurricanes, now 8-14 overall, will resume their Region X schedule this Saturday and Sunday with a four-game weekend series at the University of South Carolina-Union.
