Louisburg Bounces Back With Home Victory

LOUISBURG -- One day after dropping their Region X opener, the Louisburg College Hurricanes were back in action  with a rare Monday single game versus Cuyahoga Community College in non-league action at historic Frazier Field.

The Hurricanes jumped ahead early and then held off a late Cuyahoga threat to defeat the visitors from Ohio by a 10-7 total.

LC, now 5-8 on the campaign, received a home run and four RBI from Phillip Boykin as part of the Hurricanes' eight-hit uprising.

Leadoff hitter Josh Baker was 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and four runs scored.

Thanks to a five-run fifth inning, the Hurricanes appeared to be in charge with a 10-1 cushion, but the Tricerators would make a late push before LC was able to finish things off.

Chase Webb was the winning pitcher for the Hurricanes as he allowed just one run in five frames of quality work.

Sunday, LC kicked off its region slate with a twinbill loss at long-time rival Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina.

Scores were 8-2 and 7-2 in favor of the Pioneers.

The teams were also supposed to play Saturday, but that doubleheader was cancelled due to poor weather and will not be made up per Region X rules.

Louisburg will resume region action this Saturday and Sunday with a four-game home series versus USC-Lancaster.

First pitch each day will be at 1 p.m. at Frazier Field.
