LC Splits Twinbill At Home 

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College veteran baseball coach Blake Herring saw plenty of potential from his club last Saturday -- but also some things that needed to be worked on -- as part of a home doubleheader against Rowan College at Gloucester County.

The Hurricanes were nearly flawless in the opening game, earning a 4-3 decision that featured timely hitting, run manufacturing and clutch pitching.

But the finale provided a much different scenario as LC committed four errors and collected just three hits as part of an 8-0 setback to close out the brief series at Frazier Field.

"The most depressing thing to me is how clean of a game we played in the first one, and we flipped in the second (contest) in all phases of the game,'' said Herring, whose team is now 4-5 on the campaign.

The opener saw LC surge ahead for good in the bottom of the first when Derek Neal and Darius Nobles came through with consecutive doubles.

Ahead 2-1, Louisburg gained some space in the bottom of the third courtesy of a two-run homer from Drew Camp to straightaway center.

Brandon Bradley went five innings for his second mound victory of the season, while Brett Clements and Jordan Gay worked one scoreless stanza each fo finish off the triumph.

Louisburg, however, was shut out in the second game as Rowan received a strong pitching performance from Nick Yoder.

LC will open its Region X slate with this coming weekend with a four-game road series at long-time rival Spartanburg Methodist College.

Like every other team in the region, the Hurricanes' early-season efforts have been hindered by poor weather.

Louisburg has played nine games to date -- but eight other scheduled events have been rained out.

"I feel good because our bodies are fresh right now,'' Herring said. "That is a positive. Yes, we hoped to have a little more (in-game) experience at this point. But these guys have played enough in their careers to be ready. They know how to play the game.''
