Louisburg Splits With Guilford Tech

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College went 2-2 during a season-opening baseball series last weekend (February 9-10) against Guilford Tech.
The Hurricanes looked strong in Game One of last Saturday's home twinbill at Frazier Field by a 10-2 total as key mound returnee Tucker Rogers went the distance, allowing just four hits while striking out eight. Josh Baker and Justin Oakley led LC's eight-hit attack with one homer and four RBI apiece.
The visiting Titans returned the favor in the nightcap, winning 7-4 as a late Hurricanes' rally fell short. LC leadoff hitter Sergio Burgos went 1-for-3 with one run scored, one RBI and one double.
The series shifted to Jamestown Ragsdale High School Sunday, and the homestanding Titans claimed Game One 9-5. Louisburg looked to be in good shape as the Hurricanes posted a four-spot in the top of the first stanza -- only to see Guilford Tech respond with seven markers in the bottom of the frame.
Baker stayed hot with a longball and two RBI, while teammate Phillip Boykin also went deep while driving in a pair of runs.
Louisburg was able to salvage a split in the series finale with an 8-4 triumph as Brandon Bradley offered five shutout innings on the hill. Bradley allowed just one hit and whiffed seven. Guilford Tech made a late surge against LC's bullpen, but Hayden Laws retired the only batter he faced to claim the save.
LC's offense came through with six hits to go with six walks. Baker went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
The Hurricanes will step out of league action Wednesday (Feb. 13) at home versus Bryant and Stratton at 3 p.m. at Frazier Field.
