Canes Ready For Season Opener

LOUISBURG — Louisburg College's baseball team prepped for its upcoming Opening Day by taking part in instrasquad scrimmages last Saturday and Sunday at historic Frazier Field on the LC campus.
"Hitting-wise, we were better on Saturday, but pitching-wise, Sunday was better,'' said LC veteran head coach Blake Herring. "The main thing we wanted to work on is for our pitchers to get their pitch counts up, and the hitters to get some swings in the box against live pitching.''
Louisburg will kick off its schedule this Saturday (Feb. 9) with a home twinbill against Guilford Tech. First pitch will be at 1 p.m.
One day later, the Hurricanes will return to favor by traveling to GT for a doubleheader at Ragsdale High School in Jamestown.
LC returns 15 letterwinners from last year's club, which went 31-22 overall. The Hurricanes look to be deep on the mound thanks in part to the presence of sophomores Tucker Rogers, Chase Webb, Luke Davis and Cole Leneschmidt.
Sluggers Derek Neal, Josh Baker and Darius Nobles are back to lead a power-packed offense, while Sergio Burgos is a key returnee and defensive standout in the middle of the infield.
