Louisburg Bats Power Sweep of Bantams

LOUISBURG, N.C.  – Saturday's doubleheader between the Hurricanes and the USC Union Bantams was washed from the slate, but the two teams returned to Frazier Field on Sunday for the makeup. Louisburg made the most of the sunlight and a light breeze to center, hitting six home runs in the first game and five in the second to sweep the twinbill by a combined 25-4 score.

Game 1 (LC 12 – USC Union 1) (Five Innings)

The Hurricane bats came to life early on Sunday as the put up seven runs in the first two innings en route to a 12-1 win. Jason Parker was on the mound for Louisburg and earned the complete-game victory that was shortened to five innings.

Over five, Parker scattered four hits and allowed only one run while striking out eight batters. He took advantage of the ample run support, and threw strikes at a 76% clip (52/77) in the victory. The sophomore right-hander moved his record to 5-2 on the season for the Hurricanes.

At the plate, the Hurricanes backed Parker with more than ample run support as they put up 12 in just five innings. Leadoff hitter Zacchaeus Rasberry paced the 'Canes with four hits in four plate appearances. The leftfielder drove in four runs and scored four times for Louisburg. He had a pair of home runs in the slugfest, while Josh Baker, Derek Neal, Vinney Bailey, and Darius Nobles each added round-trippers. Neal and Bailey each had two RBIs for Louisburg.

Aaron Blackmon took the loss for the Bantams, who play a combined junior college / JV schedule and whose record was unavailable at game time.

Game 2 (Louisburg 13 – USC Union 3) (Six Innings)

The backend of Sunday's twinbill played closely to the first as the Hurricane bats stayed hot and helped deliver a 13-3 win for the sweep. Vinney Bailey topped Rasberry's production totals in the first when he went 3-3 with three round-trippers and drove in seven runs. On the afternoon the sophomore from Raleigh had four hits and nine RBIs.

Bailey, batting sixth for the Hurricanes (23-15), wasted no time in the first inning when he drove in Nobles and Brian Kahn with a three-run blast.  He added a solo shot in the third inning and then drove in Nobles and Kahn again with his second three-run homer of the game. Third baseman Seth Johnson nearly kept pace with Bailey as he added two homers for the Hurricanes and drove in three.

Tucker Rogers went five innings and gave up three runs while striking out five for the victory. The win evened Rogers mark on the year at 3-3. Steven Cook worked a perfect sixth inning, allowing no hits and striking out the side.

Next Up: The Hurricanes travel to Brunswick Community College (12-10, 11-2) on Wednesday for a midweek Region X contest.
