Baseball Earns Series Win Over Salkehatchie

Louisburg Baseball split on Sunday, but won the series against Region X opponent USC Salkehatchie. The Canes are now 25-22 overall.

In game one of the Sunday contests, uncharacteristic defensive errors plagued the Hurricanes. Vinny Bailey was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Christian Lowry hit 2-for-4 with 1 RBI, but 9 stranded baserunners limited their chances to score.

Kevin Westlake took the loss on the mound, allowing one hit and one earned run.

Louisburg bounced back for game two, however, and battled with the Indians to win 3-2 and earn the series. LC scored early in the top of the first and led the game 2-1 until the bottom of the seventh when Salkehatchie tied it up to send the game into extras. Hicks led off the top of the 8th with a walk, stole second, and moved over to third on a deep fly ball to center off the bat of CJ White. A sac fly to right from Vinny Bailey scored Hicks and gave the Canes' the lead.

Kevin Westlake earned the win in the closer role with 1.33 innings pitched. In the bottom of the 8th, Westlake ended the game on a strikeout, stranding two Indian baserunners.
